Yale Humanitarian Research Lab Details Thousands of Abducted Ukrainian Children, Destruction of Hospitals and Mass Graves

Thousands of Ukrainian children and civilians are being “deported” from their homes and in some cases “detained” by Russian forces in a now documented “filtration” program being analyzed and responded to by US State Department, Ukrainian officials and US Universities and Humanitarian Organizations.

“The unlawful transfer and deportation of protected persons is a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians and constitutes a war crime,” a Statement from the US State Department says.

Referring to the ongoing process as a “large scale operation of screening and extrajudicial detention,” a report published by the Yale School of Public Health’s Humanitarian Research Lab called “Mapping Russia’s Detention Operations in Donetsk” says.

The text of the report says children as young as 14 are being put through an aggressive “filtration” process or forced to wait in inhumane conditions. The Yale report also says there is evidence of children being taken from their parents and put up for adoption in Russia. In some cases, children of Ukrainian soldiers are targeted, the text specifies.

A write up in International News.Az cites the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine reporting preliminary figures that as many as 376 children have been killed in Ukraine as as many as 733 others injured. Given the scope of Russian bombing in civilian areas, these number may indeed be much higher.

The report is clear that the actual “amount” of people in the filtration system cannot be reliably estimated as much of it is unknown, however the text cites disturbing figures from the Ukrainian Ombudswoman for Human Rights saying as many as 276,000 children have “reached Russia from Ukraine” through this process.
