The US Navy is offered a preliminary conceptual rendering of a next generation destroyer called DDG(X).
The concept is to engineer a warship to sail alongside the existing DDG 51 destroyers into 2060 and beyond. The hull form has yet to be decided upon, the rendering was just an initial concept.
But the bulk of the combat system will be similar to the DDG 51 flight three Arleigh Burke class destroyers. They’ll have a radar system 35 times more powerful than previous systems.
They’ll have onboard electrical power to power up new weapons like sensors and lasers, various kinds of long range precision missiles, the ship will be built in the coming years and it’s now in the early conceptual stages. The idea is to reshape modern maritime warfare for decades to come.
